Pet-Friendly Housing in Hawaii

Updated: May 6, 2019

Trying to find a home for your furry friend too? House rules may specify how many pets you may have, 1 cat or 1 dog, or there maybe a weight restriction. Every building is different so be sure to check!

Luckily the Hawaii Humane Society keeps a listing of pet-friendly buildings on Oahu. A great resource to check as you begin your search. Though, keep this as a quick reference guide and always confirm this information w/ the property management company before you buy property or sign a lease.

Need to present your pet to the Board for Board Approval? Here's a helpful checklist of items you may want to consider including for their approval process:

  • Photo of your Pet

  • References from your prior Landlord

  • Spay/Neuter Documents

  • Obedience Training Certificate, if applicable

  • If renting, consider offering a pet deposit. In Hawaii, landlords can collect a pet deposit capped at 1 month's rent.

  • Consider setting up a meet and greet for your potential landlord to meet your pet.

Moving to Hawaii with your Pet? Be sure to check out Hawaii's Animal Quarantine rules and regulations in advance of your move.
